I learned an archetype is a reoccurring character in different tales. I learned that a crisis precedes the climax. I learned deus ex machine literally means “god out of a machine” I learned denouement means “untying” a knot I learned an epilogue is sort of like a resolution, it ties up the loose ends of the story. I learned an episode is an event. I learned a novella is a fictional prose between 17,000 and 40,000 words. I learned a short short story is less than 1,000 words. I learned inciting incident is a destabilizing event. I learned an epiphany is a revalation of truth.
I learned that novels typically have forty thousand words or more. I learned short stories can usually be read in one sitting. I learned short stories have from a thousand to twenty thousand words. I learned the plot is the series of events in a story. I learned the person who reads the story to the reader is not a speaker, but a narrator. I learned the person who speaks about the characters and their feelings is called third person. I learned fiction is not based on a true story. I learned non-fiction is real. I learned fiction is usually a creative work and has imaginary characters and events. I learned fiction is usually based on real events or people.

Honestly, I did not learn too much from the reading. Instead, it was more of just a review for me personally. However, I do have ten of my favorite terms. They are as follows; • Tragedy and comedy; because these are two of my favorite genres. • Denouement, in medias res, and deus ex machina; because I love how these terms are from a different language yet are used to describe the English language. • Bildungsroman; because this was a new word for me and I greatly respect its definition. • Historical Fiction; this is my absolute favorite genre! • Short short story; I have heard of a short story, but have never heard of a short short story before! • Episode; normally when I think of this word I think of a tv show, but I didn’t know that it was also used to describe works! • Discriminated Occasion; this was also a new word and I love its use to describe something specific. So I guess I did learn a bit!
